S1 Introduces Archived

Each year since 2009, S1 Artspace has supported a number of Sheffield Hallam fine art graduates through its bursary programme. The bursary artists get access to a subsidised studio, mentoring from S1 alumni, and the opportunity to present new work in the annual S1 Introduces exhibition – giving them a great start to their professional practice.

S1 Artspace's 2016-17 bursary holders are Alice Eaton, India Garry, Thomas Lee Griffiths and Liam Richards.

Liam Richards explores modern technology, the internet, and how these things have impacted our lives. In Thomas Lee Griffiths’ work, dysfunctional objects created using sculpture, casting and video works question identity and the role of the archetypal male in society. India Garry’s work lies in the fascination of human foibles, combining moving image with clumsily-made set pieces and a kitsch aesthetic. Meanwhile Alice Eaton’s work revolves around the habitats we share with other creatures and our impact on them.

The exhibition will take place in the beautiful Sheffield Institute of Arts in the Old Post Office.

Private view:
Friday 28 July, 6-8pm

Sheffield Institute of Arts, the Old Post Office, Fitzalan Square, S1 2AY.
