Celluloid Screams, Sheffield’s very own horror film festival, is back for its 9th year this weekend – just in time to get you sufficiently spooked for Halloween.

To give you some idea of what to expect, last year's Celluloid Screams opened with The Void and closed with Raw. Alongside all the films, there were art and VR exhibitions, and an all-nighter screening.

We asked festival director Rob Nevitt last year for his thoughts on the horror film revival:

"Films like the Babadook and It Follows have done so well at the box office, leading to more horror films being released more widely. There’s a lot of talk of horror films being described as classier or elevated at the moment – but at Celluloid Screams we like to screen all sorts of different films that explore the genre. Not just classy stuff, but not just blood and guts stuff either."

The 2017 Celluloid Screams programme includes a 40th anniversary screening of Suspiria, the UK premiere of Creep 2, a special screening of Inside No. 9 followed by a Q&A with Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, a 30th anniversary screening of Hellraiser, the new supernatural Scandi-noir I Remember You, a closing gala with festive shocker Better Watch Out, and lots more.
