Each November, over 150 makers, artists and craftspeople open their doors to the public at Yorkshire Artspace's Open Studios weekend. This year, some of them are also giving you and your family the chance to get creative, with a series of fun, free have-a-go activities and demos spread across the three Yorkshire Artspace sites. Drop in to one of the following:

Exchange Place Studios:

Weave with wire, Saturday and Sunday, 12-3pm
Claire Lee invites you to weave with wire to contribute to the creation of a human-scale tree, a current work-in-progress that will be exhibited in a future mixed-media installation. This activity is suitable for adults and older children under adult supervision.

Gelli printing, Saturday and Sunday, 12-3pm
Join Frances Lewis for gelli printmaking, a fun form of printmaking suitable for complete beginners. Using stencils textured objects and fabrics you’ll learn to mark make and create your own print. The process uses water based paints so it is suitable for children under parental supervision. Create your own print, Christmas card or decorations.

Persistence Works Studios:

Giant wall-based drawing, Saturday and Sunday, 11am-4pm
Contribute to a giant wall-based drawing in the gallery with Ellie Somerset, based on the theme of Sheffield: City of Makers – celebrating Sheffield's rivers, urban spaces, studios and makers.

Festive decoration making, Saturday and Sunday, 11am-4pm
Silversmith Starter Studios will help you make your own festive decoration to take home. Use copper sheet and card, and have a go at texturising pieces and using a fly press. Children must be supervised.

Manor Oaks Studios:

Image transfer and peg planes, Saturday and Sunday, 11am-4pm
My Arty Party will show you how to transfer seasonal images onto wooden blocks of various shapes and sizes. There'll also be wooden peg planes and festive angels for younger children.

Have a go on a pottery wheel and try out surface texture in clay, Saturday and Sunday, 11am-4pm
New starter studio holders Rebecca Brown and Matt Calder will be on hand to demonstrate their techniques and for you to try your hand with clay.

Late activities, Saturday, till 7pm
Manor Oaks will be open late again this year. Expect craft demonstrations, a roaring fire, pole lathing, woodwork and plenty of festive cheer.
