As a CODA – Child of Deaf Adults – Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family.
Her days are stretched between the roles she has to play, both helping the family’s fishing business stay afloat and acting as their interpreter to the hearing world.
She finds sanctuary in music: after joining her school choir and realising a passion she wishes to pursue, she sparks both the interest of her music teacher but also the indignation of her household.
Gifted with a voice that her parents can't hear, now finding herself torn between the obligations she feels to her family and the pursuit of her own dreams.
Winning both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, CODA is an outstanding achievement in terms of deaf representation, in a bright, stirring drama with heart.
