Jazz at The Lescar presents a harp double bill in the intimate setting of Yellow Arch Studios, with a true virtuoso on her instrument, Alina Bzhezhinska, paired with emerging creative talent Manon McCoy.
The concert will be a real showcase for an instrument that’s rarely seen in a jazz/improvised music context, capable of the most beautiful sounds. These two exponents of the instrument will showcase very different perspectives and new possibilities for this music.
Alina Bzhezhinska is an internationally renowned harp virtuoso. She has played at London Jazz Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, the Royal Albert Hall, he Queen’s 80th-birthday celebrations at Balmoral Castle, and WOMADelaide in Australia. She's also collaborated with Tony Kofi, Kamaal Williams, Shabaka Hutchings, Django Bates, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Ursula Rucker. Expanding the possibilities of her instrument with electronics to create a unique pallet of sounds and textures, she’s joined for this gig by a versatile and expressive bass player Julie Walkington (Georgia Mancio, Nigel Price, Loz Speyer), a musician with strong Sheffield connections.
