Showcasing some of the best local indie and alternative artists, Rock Me Baby run baby and child friendly music events in Sheffield – so you can enjoy live music together, without the issues of childcare and late nights!
For their third gig, Rock Me Baby present three alternative music acts, with Leeds based electronica artist Fran Minney headlining. Also on the lineup are Sheffield's own Tom Gunn Nash performing their first set reimagining tracks from a grassroots recording project Close, and Bradford based alternative rock band Hoamin.
Fran Minney:
Fran Minney creates a dreamy indie electronica soundtrack to the colourful woodland world she mentally inhabits. Minney’s songs are inspired as much by her mental health and the people she’s interacted with as they are by the daily paintings that the world makes for her. Though deeply personal, her songs have an ability to be felt and understood by almost everyone. Much of this comes from rich, honest vocals which manage to be haunting, powerful and intimate all at the same time.
Live performances are also inspired by nature, but this time by the octopus; Fran uses the limbs at her disposal to create a full band sound as a soloist by use of Ableton, looping and midi controllers.
Tom Gunn Nash:
Following the release of album Close, experimental folk musician Tom Gunn Nash is reimagining tracks from the album and newer material for their new show – performing on an instrument a little less worse for wear than on the original record! The editors of Bandcamp praised the album as "delicate and moving songs (built) around a broken harmonium, allowing its limitations to open up worlds."
Whilst operating on a grassroots level, Close has been warmly received, reaching listeners through being played on the BBC 6 Freak Zone with Stuart Maconie and John Moses's best new music playlist on KCRW, who commented: “Close is fantastic front to back.”
Hoamin:
Exciting new band based in Bradford, blending sleepy 90s guitars, with cinematic post-rock.
