Sheffield Carnival returns!
Sheffield Carnival 2019 will be a free multicultural family event with a costume parade, a main stage showcasing local music and dance performances, a funfair, craft workshops, and food and drink stalls for all to enjoy.
Carnival was once an annual attraction in Sheffield in the 1980s and 90s, with a spectacular and colourful procession through the city’s streets each September. Having risen from the ashes in 2017, carnival will take place once again this year – and for 2019, the theme is Made in Sheffield.
Running from midday, the Community Stage will welcome a bunch of Yorkshire-based acts including MC Medley, comedian artist Tal Taylor and the county's leading carnival turntable master DJ Trini.
Setting off at 3pm, the parade will feature some seriously impressive costumes created by talented local designers such as Tracey Samuels, Clare Jarret, Karen Bolt and Rose Smith with artistic director – and one of the world’s leading carnival artists – Clary Salandy. The parade will also introduce the Sheffield Defenders – the city's very own new set of superheroes.
