A double bill of animated short films with live music and Q&A.
That Long Moonless Chase / その長い月のない追跡
(30 mins)
In a mash-up of sinister folk-horror and fantastical mythical imagery, animator Noriko Okaku (Japan/UK), musician Helen Papaioannou (UK) and sound designer Başar Ünder (Turkey) bring an audio-visual performance based on folkloric legends from Sheffield (the Gabriel Hounds) and Kyoto (water-weeping ginkgo tree). The tales are exchanged by the looping of the Japanese and English texts, warping the legends into a bizarre and spectacular new mythology.
Race / DAUD by Nihar Palwe with music by Adi Anhane
(10 mins)
Combining live action and animation, this short film follows a young boy whose mother died giving birth to him. His father gets up every day in the early hours to attempt to scale an impossible mountain. Everyday he runs and his son runs with him. The first day the boy decides not to go is the last day he sees his father. The young boy sets out to finish what his father started – and to conquer his fear.
The music combines modern elements inspired by hip hop and rap but combined with tribal sounds.
Composer Adi Anhane will provide the electronic soundtrack complemented by woodwind players Laura and Rob Skeet.
For ages 18+.
