The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

The Bank Vault from Sheffield Theatres is a place for theatre makers to submit anything they've created in the time of lockdown.

"We know that many of you will be using this time creatively, whether you are inspired by the current circumstances or you are using the time to work on something you haven’t got around to yet. That is why, instead of opening our usual script submission window, we are opening The Bank Vault, a place to submit anything you have created in the time of lockdown that you think could have a life outside of your self-isolated walls.

At Sheffield Theatres we want to find and make work which is bold and brilliant, from unique voices and original perspectives, based around ideas not often explored and that would be at home in our city and on our stages.

Our intention is to build relationships with artists and develop new work together. We’ll be upfront – like everyone else, we can’t predict what things will be like in the future, we don’t know what opportunities or platforms we will have for work created in this time. What we do know is that we will review all the work that is sent to us, and we are opening The Bank Vault to be inspired by what you have been creating, and to help us to make plans for the future.

If you would like to share with us what you have been making during the lockdown, we’d like to get a sense of your style, voice, artistic interests and ideas."

ELIGIBILITY

  • Individual artists or companies based in South Yorkshire
  • The work can be a script or a video, a whole performance or just an extract of something, as long as it is a piece of theatre; by which we mean created to be performed live in front of an audience
  • One entry per person or company

DEADLINE
There is no specific deadline at this time, but as this is a lockdown window, Sheffield Theatres will base submission closure on when national isolation rules are relaxed, giving one week’s notice for final submissions.

SUBMISSIONS
Please include your name, or a lead contacts name, and a contact email address and phone number and send submissions to talent.development@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk with the subject line ‘Bank Vault and your name’.
