The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Sheffield Chamber Music Festival

Sheffield Chamber Music Festival returns 17–25 May 2024, bringing people together over the delights of chamber music. And this year is extra special for its organisers at Music in the Round, as it marks their 40th anniversary.

Chamber music is classical music for a small groups of musicians. It makes for intimate, immersive experiences that create a special energy and connection between audience and performers. Here in Sheffield, Music in the Round have been hosting world class chamber music since 1984. Together with their resident group Ensemble 360, each spring they host the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival to really shine a spotlight on this form of music in the city.

For the 2024 festival, get up early for a sunrise performance in the atmospheric setting of a cemetery chapel. Embark on a magical musical adventure for children. Enjoy choral music in a glorious church (as featured in our Modernist Churches of Sheffield tour). Hear pieces by big names like Mozart or Bach, alongside less familiar gems from various times and places. All brought together by this year’s guest curator, cellist Steven Isserlis.

See the full programme below and get booking.

If you’ve never been to a Music in the Round concert before, you can enjoy your first performance for just £5. Discounts are available for students, under-35s, disabled people and unemployed people. You can also save when you buy tickets for five or more concerts.
