The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

This debut film from Leilah Weinraub, focuses on Shakedown, an underground strip club founded in the 90s as a space for the African American queer community of Los Angeles. Carefully cut from hundreds of hours of footage, Shakedown captures the incredible performances of the dancers (the legendary Egypt, Miss Mahogany and I-Dallas), whilst meditating on privacy, sexuality and the meaning of safe spaces for the LGBTQI+ community.

Screenings will be followed by a Q&A.

Shakedown is one our top Doc/Fest 2018 picks – see more. It also features in Doc/Fest's own highlights headed Voice, Power and Visionary Culture: LGBTQ+ Stories on Screen and Celebrating Independent Women on Screen.
