The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Under the Stars is a performing arts organisation for people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Based in Hillsborough, they get together for weekly music, dance, drama and musical theatre workshops with professional musicians, actors and performing artists. It's all about nurturing creative skills and having opportunities to perform. Join Under the Stars on 31 May and 1 June when they present two original new plays in the Crucible Studio.

Freedonia – 31 May
A reflection on a dystopian society where dreaming is forbidden and hope must fight fear and isolation.

The Many Journeys of Maria Rossini – 1 June
A story about triumph over oppression amongst Sicilian peasants living in the shadow of Mount Etna. Under the Stars' band, the Sparkle Sistaz, will also perform a moving Italian style vocal set before this performance.

Both plays are moral tales packed with drama, music, dance and video. They're devised and written entirely by the cast, staff and volunteers at Under the Stars, led by director Steve Givnan.
