The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Livia Barreira

Our Favourite Places would be nothing without our contributors — a massive thanks to all of them!

Tell us about you...
I am Livia (or Olivia without the “O”). I am a Brazilian journalist who moved to Sheffield in 2016. I love delicious food (especially from independent places), I'm a big fan of real ale and I collect wine corks. I am curious, a natural explorer and an adaptable person. People say that I am creative, funny, friendly and full of energy. Well I try to wake up in the morning with the most positive feelings and thoughts. I also share my impressions of Sheffield on my Instagram profile (@livinginsheffield).

What does Sheffield mean to you?
My home, sweet home. It is where my heart found its other half.

What’s your favourite Sheffield place?
Kelham Island. I like to see how the area is changing its face and being more trendy and interesting each day. I love the harmonic mix between the traditional historic pubs and the new cool, modern independent places to eat.

What would you do to improve the city?
1. I would expand the tram network to encourage more people to use public transport.

2. I'd clean up all of the litter I see lining the roads. It drives me crazy to see it!

3. I would like to see more great independent cafes and restaurants in all areas of the city. The kind of good vibe we have at Abbeydale Road and Sharrow Vale Road could be spread to other neighbourhoods.
