A first class band of rising stars from the Leeds jazz scene, with a bustling and joyous mix of Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, swing and funk grooves, and inventive improvisation from six wonderful and inspiring musicians drawing inspiration from the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne shorter, Hermeto Pascoal, Nubiyan Twist, Nubya Garcia and many more.
With their debut EP released in 2023 described as “First class” by Jazz FM’s John Osbourne, Mangorata feature James Absalom (tenor sax), Olivia Cuttill (trumpet), Liam Mason (piano), Chris Williams (bass), JJ Petrie (percussion) and Miles Pillinger (drums).
This will definitely be a special gig, showcasing some of the most exciting musicians emerging right now, as anyone who came along for gigs by the bands led by trumpeter Olivia Cuttill and drummer Miles Pillinger last year will know, and it follows a wonderful performance by Olivia’s quintet on the main stage at Manchester Jazz Festival, just a few weeks ago.
Music full of surprises, fire and positive energy; resonant horns, rich jazz harmonies and vibrant rhythms, a really perfect mix.
