After receiving widespread critical acclaim and a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut album, Black Midi returned with something completely different. While most bands might try and cash in on the early success, Black Midi seem far more interested in pushing the boundaries of what they can achieve.
Their second album Cavalcade, is a frenzied mix of math-rock, jazz, prog, noise, post-rock and more. The Guardian described them as part of “a much older continuum that has its roots in progressive rock and Captain Beefheart, jazz and the rock-classical crossover”, while their live shows have been compared to “the feeling of being deftly pummelled by barely comprehensible forces”.
