Adapted from Haruki Murakami's short stories, director Pierre Földes's animated debut feature Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman sketches the lives of multiple Tokyo residents. They include an unambitious bank employee, his disheartened wife, a delusional accountant, a lost cat and a giant talkative frog. They're thrown into a whirlpool of anxiety and introspection, following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in eastern Japan.
This captivating tale of trauma-induced self-examination unfolds through a new technique of "live animation" with striking visual, sound and storytelling effect.
