Gather in the atmospheric Samuel Worth Chapel at Sheffield General Cemetery for the next Cemetery Cinema screening: A Matter Of Life And Death (1946).
After miraculously surviving a jump from his burning plane, RAF pilot Peter Carter (David Niven) encounters the American radio operator (Kim Hunter) to whom he has just delivered his dying wishes. Face-to-face on a tranquil English beach, the pair fall in love. But when a heavenly messenger summons Peter to the afterlife to correct the "error" that spared his life, Peter must mount a defense for his right to stay on earth.
Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's audacious Technicolor fantasy – featuring long-celebrated cinematic visual tricks and grand production design – traverses time and space to make a case for the transcendent value of love.
Proceeds from this screening go to SGCT, to help with work looking after Sheffield General Cemetery and the two Grade II listed buildings, and to inform and educate about the history of this unique green space.
The licensed cafe bar will be open throughout selling drinks and snacks.
