British-French experimental harpist Manon McCoy and Sheffield-based recorder/whistle player Juliana Day come together for a live improvised performance at the stunning Samuel Worth Chapel.
Manon McCoy is an experimental harpist, improviser and composer based in the North of England. Working across live performance, sound art and installation, she combines harp and live electronics in collaborative and improvisatory settings. Alongside projects including balo and her duo with vocalist Alice Brooke – whose latest record was released on Berlin label Elektramusic in 2025 – she performs nationally and continues to explore the boundaries of the pedal harp through preparations, live processing and improvisation.
Juliana Day is known for her distinctive approach to low recorders, whistles, voice and found sounds, building layered, looping compositions, her latest album described by Jazzwise as “fascinating and contemplative”. Her work has been commissioned by organisations including Making Tracks and the Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music, and her performances span experimental venues, concert settings and broadcast media including BBC Radio 3.
Together, McCoy and Day create music that is industrial, dark, beautiful and dreamlike- moving between fragile intimacy and dense, shifting intensity. Both are core members of Sheffield’s Emergence Collective, which Day co-founded and co-directs, and share an ongoing collaborative practice, weaving harp, winds, voice and electronics into fluid, responsive forms.
In this performance they are joined by Benji Wilson, a Sheffield based visual artist, photographer and videographer. Benji will be providing fully analogue live visuals using a range of vintage and adapted technology to blend and mix abstract textures with glitched out video feeds in real time. The chaotic feedback loops echo the looped and improvised music from Manon and Juliana to create a one of a kind audio-visual experience.
Support comes from Pefkin – Gayle’s intimate yet expansive music unfolds slowly through ritualistic hymnals inspired by landscape, folklore and the natural world.
