ESEA Futures is Bloc Projects' annual programme foregrounding East and Southeast Asian art practices, co-presented with Platform Asia.
In recent years, Bloc Projects has commissioned a number of boundary-pushing art works that highlight ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) experiences in the UK. With Platform Asia, they're now growing and co-developing an annual programme dedicated specifically to ESEA diasporas and art. The hope is to nourish and provide space for ESEA imaginings through exhibitions, events and other learning opportunities.
The inaugural ESEA Futures 2025 programme includes:
- Launch event (10 Oct) at Bloc Projects, free and open to all
- The Restoration of Happiness – a group exhibition showcasing contemporary Southeast Asian perspectives (11 Oct–15 Nov). Featuring Krerkburin Kerngburi, Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee, Chulayarnnon Siriphol and Quỳnh Anh Trần
- Screening of Both Sides Now 10, presented by videoclub (Thu 23 Oct). A milestone edition featuring a selection of moving image works from UK and Hong Kong
- Finissage party at Gut Level (Sat 15 Nov). Featuring Sayang and Kom Kom
