Since the release of his debut album almost 50 years ago, Martin Simpson has quietly become regarded as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world. Like all great folk artists, he’s collected stories, tunes, styles and influences along the way, interpreting traditional songs and turning them into something of his own.
He’s also collected a whole string of awards, being one of the most decorated folk musicians around, receiving the most nominations of any performer (31) in the 18 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
With half a century’s worth of experience to draw on, expect an eclectic evening of amazing guitar playing and stories of love, passion, sorrow, beauty, tragedy and majesty.
