The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

The Nightmare Before Christmas

A classic dark fantasy stop-motion animated musical – set in a world where different lands represent different holiday seasons. It follows Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, as he discovers Christmas Town and attempts to bring Christmas under his control by taking over the role of Santa Claus.

But Jack soon discovers that even the best-laid plans can have unexpected results.

A brilliantly imaginative and original fairy tale, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a visually fantastic timeless classic.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is screening in Sheffield in December 2023 for its 30th anniversary, at the Showroom, The Light, and the Samuel Worth Chapel within Sheffield General Cemetery.

Converted from a 1930s art deco car showroom, the Showroom is one of the biggest independent cinemas in Europe – and we'd reckon one of the best. Between the screens and the bar, it's easy to while away whole days here.

Sheffield General Cemetery

A hillside spot for both the living and the dead, containing stories of wars, epidemics, floods and more between 1836 and 1978. Today it's rich in history, wildlife and architecture. Look out for upcoming gigs, film screenings and exhibitions.
