Ben-Hur tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a wealthy Jewish prince in Roman-occupied Jerusalem, who is betrayed by his Roman adopted brother, Messala, falsely accused of treason, and sentenced to years as a galley slave. After surviving slavery and gaining freedom, Ben-Hur seeks revenge, culminating in a famous chariot race against Messala. Mirroring Ben-Hur's story is the story of Jesus Christ, whom Ben-Hur interacts with throughout the story.
It won a record 11 Academy Awards at the 1959 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
