Although English Teacher are another band embracing the sprechgesang (speak-singing) style of vocal delivery, there are more strings to their bow than simply talking over a wiry guitar sound (although they do this really well). Keen not to be pigeon-holed as just another post-punk band, the few EPs they’ve released so far showcase their impressive musical chops and ability to take influence from a wide range of musical styles, all undercut by Lily Fontaine’s cooly delivered quick wit and biting sarcasm.
Since forming in 2020 in Leeds, they’ve appeared on Later… with Jools Holland, supported Yeah Yeah Yeahs and their song Nearly Daffodils was named one of the 10 best of 2023 by Time Magazine.
