Idris Ackamoor and The Pyramids are a seminal afrocentric spiritual jazz group led by alto and tenor saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, actor, and tap dancer Idris Ackamoor. They formed nearly fifty years ago in 1972, dissolved in 1977, but resurrected 30 years later in 2007.
Since their reformation, their album, An Angel Fell, received universal acclaim and was named as one of the best albums of 2018 by the New York City Jazz Record, Record Collector, The Quietus and All About. Their latest album, Shaman, was described by The Guardian as “a brilliant, shape-shifting matrix.”
