Lost Stones is a new spoken word piece from David Bramwell, best known as the author of Cult of Water, a magical book about the river Don and the myths of our waterways.
In this show, David mixes a personal odyssey in search of the ‘missing’ stone of Avebury with an exploration into a terrifying 1970s children’s TV series, folk horror, The Wicker Man, dowsing, and the origins and rituals of Silbury Hill and Stonehenge. Along the way he somehow ends up on tour with Julian Cope, uncovers a National Trust April Fool’s Day prank and sets out to prove why paganism is the best of all possible worlds.
Lost Stones is presented here alongside Swift Wings, a spoken word and music performance by Justin Hopper and Sharron Kraus. Swift Wings takes inspiration from the pagan landscape poems of 1920s occultist and writer Victor Neuburg – best known for his relationship with Aleister Crowley and for discovering Dylan Thomas. It sets Hopper’s readings to Kraus’s original music performed live on recorders, flutes, synths, vocals and more. The performance is accompanied by original videos by artist Wendy Pye.
