The year is 2033. It hasn't rained in over 10 years, after a meteor hit the Earth and turned its once lush surface into a baren wasteland.
The planet's water supply is controlled by the Water & Power corporation, led by the evil CEO and power-mad dictator, Kesslee, who seeks total world domination.
But there is resistance standing in the way of total control; "The Rippers", a mutant army of half-men / half-kangaroo fighters, alongside the fearless, wise-cracking Tank Girl, a warrior woman with a tank and tonnes of attitude. The odds of survival are 1000 to 1, and that's just the way she likes it.
First published in 1988, Tank Girl began life as a comic strip - created by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett - before becoming a cult phenomenon in the 1990s.
Adapted from the hit comic strip, this slice of post-apocalyptic science-fiction from director Rachel Talalay (Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare), features Lori Petty (Point Break) as the one and only Tank Girl, Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) as the mega-villain CEO, with Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) in amongst the 'Rippers', and creature design by Stan Winston (Predator, Aliens, Jurassic Park).
Infused with punk chaos and signature animation based on the original Tank Girl comic book series - along with a kick-ass soundtrack - celebrate the 30th Anniversary of a bonafide cult classic.
This screening is presented by Reel Spirit – a collaboration between the Spirit of Independence Film Festival and Reel Steel.
