Rhyme and Reason

Rhyme and Reason, 681 Ecclesall Road, S11 8TG

Open Monday–Saturday 9am–5pm, Sunday 11am–3pm

For over two decades this colourful, charming shop has specialised in books for children. Rhyme and Reason is an ideal spot for little ones, across the road from Endcliffe Park and conveniently close to schools and nurseries.

Manager Sadie is a big believer in the power of reading. “It expands your world and your imagination. It can be a way of escape. The actual experience of going into a bookshop – especially for a child – is really important.” Lots of local children save up their pocket money and come in to choose something. And Sadie and the small team are on hand to help with recommendations, knowing the stock inside out.

As well as escapism, the shop also offers specialist books to support kids dealing with everything from divorce to grief. In recent years it’s expanded into a place where adults too can treat themselves to a new read.
