Earlier this year, George King Architects delivered the Sheffield Covid Memorial public artwork in the shape of a willow tree in Barker's Pool.
Everyone is invited to take part in a community event on Saturday 26 August hosted by artists Liah Edwardes and Sarah Waterhouse.
10.30am – Ribbon hanging
To begin the day, organisers will hang the first round of ribbons containing covid memorial stories, motifs and portraits with the community. The sculpture will be a centre point for gathering different communities together to use creativity to expose emotions and conversation.
11:15am–2:30pm – Drop-in stencil and block printing workshop
Join Sarah Waterhouse for a learning experience that anyone can take from. The printing will be driven by symbolism, pattern and emotions felt during covid, after and at present day. You'll get to print onto the ribbons and to keep adding to the sculpture, watching it grow.
11.15am–2.30pm – Live portrait drawing
Liah Edwardes connects people and places through the process of drawing and conversation. Her previous experience doing live portraits has given space for people to chat and feel comfortable to share feelings and lived experience. You’ll get to take the portrait away with you.
